Case study

A property launch with no public address system

A hospitality group launched a property across three outdoor terraces where a conventional PA would have carried into guest rooms. Silent audio to delegate handsets carried the programme instead.

A coach parked at a convention centre kerb before sunrise with its luggage bay open, cones and a clipboard nearby.

The challenge

What was actually wrong

The property was operational, with paying guests in rooms overlooking the event space, and the licence conditions capped outdoor sound. A conventional speaker system loud enough to cover three terraces was not available to us as an option.

Approach

How we sized it

We proposed silent delivery to handsets rather than trying to engineer a directional PA, which would have been expensive and marginal. Because delegates were already on handsets, adding a second language cost almost nothing, so the programme ran in two.

Deployment

What went on the floor

Distributed low-level fill on each terrace for atmosphere only, with the programme itself delivered to handsets over our own wireless network. Speeches were captured on lapel radio mics feeding both the handset mix and the recording, which meant the same-day cut had clean audio rather than terrace ambience.
